Feyenoord coach Arne Slot said on Friday that the deal for him to succeed Jürgen Klopp as Liverpool manager will be done "in a matter of days."

Sources have confirmed to ESPN that Liverpool have reached an agreement with the Dutch club that will see Slot take over at Anfield.

"It's not quite done yet, but it will be a matter of days," Slot told a news conference.

"It takes more than a simple shopping list and going to the store. These kinds of things have to be timed properly. It hasn't been communicated yet, but don't worry, it will undoubtedly happen soon."

Klopp confirmed in January that he will step down from his role as Liverpool manager at the end of the season, with Slot emerging as the leading candidate to replace him.

Slot, 45, signed a three-year contract last year after guiding the Rotterdam-based club to the Eredivisie title. The former AZ Alkmaar coach rejected offers from Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur last summer to commit his future to Feyenoord.

Liverpool's hopes of lifting the Premier League title in Klopp's final season in charge appear remote after they dropped points against Everton and West Ham in consecutive matches in April.

The Merseyside club trail league leaders Arsenal by five points with only two matches remaining in the season.
